Lions

The Lion is a mammal that belongs to the Felidae (cat) family. It is now an endangered specie.

Lions are very large animals. They have yellow brown fur and can grow up to 3 meters tall. They have strong bodies and big teeth. Males also have shaggy manes that change colour and length as the grow older. Males also have very powerful legs and are often bigger and taller than their female peers.

Males can mate and have up to 5 cubs at a time. Males can mate over 100 times day during mating season, and they uncommonly mate with their daughters. Mating season comes only once a year. Males also leave families to find other lionesses to mate with, They try to mate with new lionesses every year.

Lions get tramples and killed by buffalo's quite often. When cubs are born they have a 60%-70% chance of dying from predators. Lion's most common predators are Hyena's, Buffalo's, Leopard's and Black Back Jackel's. Lions can also be their own predators as the male lions often kill the pride of cub to get all the attention from the mother lioness.

Lion's live in Central African Republic, Angola, Botswana, Mozambique and Tanzania. Lions live in prides of 10-15 animals. There surroundings are often grasslands and woodlands and they wander a territory of 259 square kilometers. They often sleep and lye under shady trees. Lions live in a very warm climate with a year round average of 33.9 celcius.

  1. Hi allie,
My name is Sibel and I am one of the Commenters in the Blogging challenge.
I really enjoyed reading your post about Lions. I have a cat and its name is Leo because it looks like a small lion. When I read your post, I realised how similar my cat is to lions. It is very strong, its hair is shiny and changes colour according to the light, likes jumping and being in the shaddy places.
    Thank you:)

    1. That's really cool! I love cats but sadly I have a hay fever allergy so I can't be around them 24/7. Even when I was writing this piece I thought "that's exactly what Roxy (my neighbour's cat) does! Except, she likes to turn my neighbour's house into a bit of a forest! She brings in rats, birds, and last night, she brought in a morepork! Which is a native New Zealand owl! I would love if we could keep in touch!
